What we love

  • Affordably priced.
  • 4G high-speed internet.
  • Compact Device.

Overview

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G is a 4-inch smartphone that comes running Android 4.4 KitKat. It has a dual-core processor and a bunch of other averagely nice features. Also, worth noting, it is a GSM phone and works with AT&T cell towers so be sure to check that you AT&T network coverage in your home area. One thing that impressed me on this entry level phone is 4G capability.

Unboxing

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G is a prepaid GSM phone which you can order from Straight Talk. Opening the box, we have the Alcatel gadget, battery, a wall adapter, a standard USB cable, battery, a pair of headsets, service manuals and activation card. Installing the battery and doing the initial setups is pretty simple, I was done in under 5 minutes. I will go straight to the design.

Design

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G is a 4-inch device with slightly rounded corners. The outer cover is plastic with a nice texture. The back cover is removable – which gives you access to the battery and also the microSD and SIM slots.

The exterior design and layout of buttons is kind of typical. The power button and headphone jack are on the upper frame of the device. The volume buttons lie on the right-hand side of the device. We have the USB port at the bottom side of the gadget together with your mic.
The back cover holds the primary camera as well as your main speaker.

Coming to the front, you will find the 4-inch capacitive display. The lower part of the screen holds the navigation buttons. The phone has the three navigation buttons; the back button on the left, home button at the center and the recent apps button on the right. The phone is very compact and fits perfectly in one hand.

Camera

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G comes with a 2MP back camera, and it lacks a front camera. It takes quite average photos in well-lit environments, but it would perform poorly in dark areas due to lack of a LED flash on the back camera. It can capture videos, and it has a few filters you can apply on photos taken.

Display

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G gives you a 4-inch compact display with a relatively average resolution. It’s not so small that you won’t see and not so large that you will struggle to operate with one hand. The screen is relatively responsive to touch, and I believe it’s a good device for the price.

Battery

Battery capacity on the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G is 1400mAh. Given it’s a compact device, the battery life is average. 7 hours of talk time and 9 days of standby is pretty good for a phone in its price range. When playing games and intensive browsing, I have had to recharge some hours into the day. But with typical usage like texting, making calls, or replying to emails the battery survived through a day.

Storage

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi PulsarA460G ships with 4GB of internal memory, although the usable memory is 2GB. Now, that may seem small, but it does hold some applications. If your internal storage gets depleted, you can expand the capacity with an external microSD card of up to 32GB.

Performance

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Pulsar A460G ships running Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor running at 1.3GHz. Onboard the device is 512MB of RAM.

I found the performance of the phone to be average in activities like browsing, watching videos on YouTube and playing games. It is 4G enabled, so loading of pages and other internet activities are fast enough. When browsing, the phone performs well with a few tabs open; it may become slow if you open like more than five tabs. It’s an excellent phone for texting, checking out your emails and making calls though.

Messages have a conversation-like view which is pretty impressive for a low-end phone. It comes loaded with all the essential apps you may need to operate like Gmail, Google Maps, Hangouts, Google Photos and more.

It has Bluetooth 4.0 for quick file transfer between nearby devices. GPS is also available for location services and navigation on Google Maps. It has Wi-Fi, FM radio and Hearing Aid Compatibility.
