Motorola One Hyper Overview
The Motorola One family includes smartphones like the Macro, Vision, Power, Action, Zoom, and Fusion+, each of which has unique features. While one smartphone may have a superior camera, another might offer better battery life, performance, or 5G support. Launched on December 4, 2019, the Motorola One Hyper is the seventh new addition to the One family. It’s key features include a selfie camera that pops out from the top of the unit, super-fast charging at a rate of 45W, and a 64MP primary camera. The device is in close competition with the Google Pixel 3a.
The Moto One Hyper runs on Android 10 out of the box. Thanks to an octa-core processor and 4GB of RAM, it can stand up to all your demands. The Motorola One series is doing well in the budget segment, following in the footsteps of the Moto G series. Let’s dive deep into the comprehensive Motorola One Hyper review.
Unboxing Motorola One Hyper
The device comes packed in a purple box, similar to other Motorola One smartphones. The front of the box has Motorola One Hyper branding, and the back describes what’s inside the package. Opening the box reveals the Motorola One Hyper, already covered by a screen protector at the front and a transparent case at the back. Underneath the device lies the paperwork, including a quick start guide, safety or warranty information, and the SIM ejection tool. Motorola One Hyper Design
Motorola One Hyper has an almost bezel-less screen with a slick design that looks premium. The 6.5-inch screen on the front neither has a notch nor a punch-hole camera. Instead, a selfie camera pops out from the top edge, maximizing the screen real estate. The smartphone is available in three color options — Dark Amber, Deep Sea Blue, and Fresh Orchid. We received the Dark Amber model.
Dark Amber color gives a bold appearance to the smartphone. The back of the device has a glossy, iridescent finish. Dual cameras are housed vertically on the big panel that stands out. A fingerprint scanner is near the center, surrounded by a circular notification light. Motorola One branding is also inscribed vertically near the bottom. A cool dotted stripe runs from the camera panel to Motorola’s branding, adding a unique touch.
A 3.5mm headphone jack with a pop-up selfie camera sits at the top edge. The volume rocker and a power button are on the right edge. A SIM card tray is on the left edge, whereas the bottom edge hosts the speaker, microphone, and USB Type-C charging port.
Motorola One Hyper Camera
Take vibrant photos and videos wherever you go with the Motorola One Hyper. It features the following cameras:
- 64MP primary sensor
- 8MP ultra-wide camera
- 32MP pop-up selfie camera
With a 64MP ultra-high resolution sensor, the Motorola One Hyper can capture remarkable moments in high detail with better color accuracy that blows away your old camera. There’s also laser focus technology on the primary camera, so the subject comes into focus instantly. The other camera on the back is the ultra-wide lens that captures more of what you see in the frame. There is no optical zoom, but you can take advantage of the digital zoom for clicking pictures from far away.
The quad pixel technology of the device combines four pixels into one, ensuring the pictures are brighter with better details. It improves performance in low-light situations. The 32MP pop up camera comes out quickly and captures excellent selfies. We didn’t witness any significant noise, and the photos were shareworthy. Similar to OnePlus 7 Pro, the pop-up camera automatically retracts itself if you drop the smartphone accidentally. In well-lit situations, the camera performance won’t disappoint.
The camera app has many unique features to get that perfect shot. It includes portrait mode, spot color, night vision mode, cinemagraph, and much more. Motorola One Hyper can shoot 4K videos at 30 fps with the main camera, 1080p videos at 60 fps with the selfie, and the ultra-wide camera. Overall, video quality is decent and gets the job done.
Motorola One Hyper Display
The Motorola One Hyper has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ screen that feels bigger than ever, with a narrowed chin and forehead. The entire display spans from edge to edge, enabling a better viewing experience with no notch or punch-hole camera. Everything on your screen looks better, from movies to games to apps. With a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, it offers crisp details, sharper color, and good visibility in the outdoors. We could see and read the content under direct sunlight.
The display has a pixel density of 396 PPI. The smartphone also has a dark mode that you can turn on to avoid straining your eyes. Given the device’s price, we couldn’t expect much better display performance.
Motorola One Hyper Battery
According to Motorola, the One Hyper features a 4000mah battery that can last up to 38 hours. A large battery pack ensures you’ll have plenty of juice for a full day of work and light usage on the second day. The device comes bundled with a 15W charging adapter. However, it has supercharging capabilities as it supports charging up to 45W. The 45W charger provides you with hours of power in a matter of minutes. In our opinion, power users should upgrade to a 45W charger.
You can turn on battery saver mode or further decrease brightness levels to increase battery life when in need. After a day of heavy use, we had 30% left in the tank. Overall, the battery capacity of Motorola One Hyper will be sufficient for most users.
Motorola One Hyper Storage
Motorola One Hyper is all about enormous space. The smartphone comes with a massive 128GB of internal storage, enough for thousands of songs, photos, and even HD videos. The storage is further expandable to 1TB with the microSD slot. If you love playing games, downloading lots of apps, and have a knack for photography, 128GB is suitable for your needs. As the device can capture HD videos, 1TB is also an ideal amount of room if you love vlogging. The device won’t disappoint you in terms of storage.
Motorola One Hyper Performance
Motorola One Hyper runs on a mid-range chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675. It delivers smooth performance, vibrant gaming graphics, and superior photography features. The 4GB RAM further helps in seamlessly switching between multiple tasks or running apps simultaneously. We didn’t face any lag while moving between games, text, and video streaming. The processor can handle heavy games like PUBG Mobile, but the purpose is to provide efficient performance.
The smartphone has Android 10 support and offers a near-stock Android experience, like other Motorola devices. However, the Motorola One Hyper isn’t a member of the Android One program, unlike some other Moto cell phones in the series. We didn’t find any bloatware or unnecessary apps on the phone. An intuitive interface and easily accessible options make the device very user-friendly. Similar to other Motorola Android phones, you also get Moto Action on this device. With the Moto Action app, you can launch the camera by twisting your wrist, turn on the flashlight by chopping motion, and much more.
When you receive a call, message, or any other notification, the notification light on the back illuminates. The device also gets Dolby Audio support, which means crystal clear quality and realistic sound from the speakers. Another amazing feature Motorola added is the NFC, which is usually missing from budget mobile devices at this price. We’re happy with the Motorola One Hyper’s performance.
Final Words About Motorola One Hyper
Motorola One Hyper has a powerful set of specs, including a pop-up selfie camera exclusive to this device in the entire Motorola One lineup. The device is right near the top of the pack and comes in at a reasonable price. This mid range smartphone stands out from other mobile phones with its all-screen front and high-quality 64MP primary camera. Featuring a premium look, the Motorola One Hyper offers pretty nice value for money. The exclusive Motorola features like the Moto Action or other customizable features may be attractive to Apple iPhone users. Whether you’re already a fan of Motorola phones, or someone looking for flagship-like features without paying a flagship price, the Motorola One Hyper is the phone for you.
